We’ve picked out a few of our foodie favourites to inspire your next culinary adventure, so why not avoid the traffic and let the train take you to one of these mouthwatering menus. The only hard part is deciding what you want to eat!
If you're looking for something to keep the kids occupied, we've got a selection of activities for all ages. For fun-filled days out at the Legoland Discovery Centre in Manchester to honing their excavating skills with 6-tonne diggers at Diggerland in Castleford, West Yorkshire, we've got you covered!
If it's renowned museums and art galleries you're after, look no further! There's so much choice, from the open air Sculpture Park near Wakefield, or the Millennium Gallery, Sheffield, to the family-friendly Weston Park Museum, Sheffield, or the Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens. The North really is the place for some enriching days out, boasting such a range of intriguing tourist experiences, whether it's taking in the stunning architecture of Liverpool Cathedral or coming face to face with Lincolnshire's earliest inhabitants at the Collection museum, Lincoln.
If you want to get your heart pumping, we've got plenty of adrenaline-filled days out for you! From paint balling your way through the Wild, Wild West or a replica of the Berlin Wall at Manchester's Delta Force Paintball, to swinging through the treetops on the high ropes and zipwire at Buxton's Go Ape, situated in the Peak District National Park, Northern will be there to make sure you find your way back home after a long day of excitement!
The North is home to some of the country's most breathtaking beaches and views. You'll find traditional seaside destinations dotted along the North-East coast from Whitley Bay down to Skegness, while an awe-inspiring scene awaits you along the wild Northumberland coastline and vast stretch of sand at Bamburgh. The monumental sand dunes of Formby on the West coast of Lancashire might even give you a view of Blackpool tower on a clear day, while Blundell Sands near Crosby is also worth a visit to see Antony Gormley's sculptures of one hundred iron men staring out to sea.
If you fancy slowing things down for a minute and getting back to Nature, the North has a wealth of areas of natural beauty to enjoy. In Derbyshire's Peak District National Park you'll find the Heights of Abraham where a cable car will take you from the valley floor up 169 metres, giving spectacular views across the Peak District and Derwent Valley. There's also the Masson and Rutland show caverns to visit if you don't like heights! For more areas of outstanding beauty there's also The Yorkshire Dales and Moors, as well as the stunningly beautiful Lake District and the more rugged charms of the North Pennines.
Our experts have gathered a series of tried and tested walks, specially chosen to be easily accessible from stations across the north.
Whether you fancy an urban stroll through some of the North’s best cities, sampling some great food and drink as you go, or a wander through the idyllic Northern countryside, these walks have been designed to take you to the hidden gems on our doorsteps.
