Mother Shipton's Cave has been welcoming visitors since 1630 and claims to be England's oldest tourist attraction. You could be the next one to experience its magical charms and marvel at its petrifying well.

Mother Shipton was a famous prophetess who predicted the defeat of the Spanish Armada, the Great Fire of London and the year of her death (1561). Today her story is celebrated at the cave and the petrifying well where you can see everyday objects that have been turned to stone (petrified) by minerals in the 700 gallons of water that flow over the well every hour. Make a wish at the well and see what takes your fancy in the shop - teddy bears that take five months to petrify under the drips are very popular!
