Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life tells the story of Cumbria’s County Infantry and its soldiers past and present. Telling the intertwined story of 300 years of a British Infantry Regiment through state of the art audio/visual displays and dioramas including a Second World War trench. Find out what life was like for ordinary people doing extra-ordinary things. See the bible that stopped the bullet, drums once touched by Napoleon and military hardware that served the British Army.
The Museum is located in the Historic Quarter within the walls of the magnificent Carlisle Castle. The building itself was constructed to provide a dining hall and regimental institute for the Border Regiment. It has been carefully refurbished close to its original layout in order to preserve and reveal its history.
Throughout the year we hold special events and exhibitions relating to specific subjects or periods of conflict. Please see our website for the most up to date events and activities.
