Shibden Hall offers a fascinating insight into the lives of the people who once lived and worked here. It’s also home to a host of fabulous attractions and delightful parkland.
Set in the picturesque Shibden valley, Shibden Hall is just a mile from Halifax. Dating back to 1420 its impressive architecture reflects the changing styles of progressive years. Famous occupants include the diarist, mountaineer and all-round eccentric Anne Lister who inherited Shibden Hall in 1826.
Fascinating Folk museum
Adjacent to the house you can wander around a 17th century barn and workshops and view a varied collection of objects from days gone by. These include the tools used by blacksmiths, saddlers and wheelwrights. There’s also the option to take a stroll around a recreated brewhouse and inn.
Other reasons to visit Shibden Hall? There’s a myriad of winding woodland paths to walk, a café full of enticing cakes, pedalos to pedal on the lake, and the option of a game of pitch and putt. But perhaps we’ve overlooked the most important aspect of a day out at Shibden Hall- for some visitors this is undoubtedly the extensive, superbly- equipped play area.
