Rich in ancient Roman history, the walled city of York is the perfect destination for the whole family. York’s many attractions are all just a stone’s throw from the train station including its famous tangle of cobbled streets, independent shops, boutiques, cafes, bars and restaurants, and the dramatically imposing York Minister.

For the third year running, the city will play host to the Great Yorkshire Fringe (21st July – 6th August). Featuring entertainment from around the world, the festival is geared towards the young and young at heart, with performances from the Amazing Bubble Man and Morgan & West’s magic for children to name but a few.

For those wanting something slightly more sedate, why not hire a boat along the river, enjoy one of the many city cruises or take a stroll along the city’s walls. A spot of afternoon tea at Betty’s would also not go amiss. For those interested in paranormal activities, dare yourself to join one of the ghost walking tours, which are believed to be the most haunted in Europe.
