Train times will changed on Sunday 11 December 2022 - If you haven't travelled in a while we encourage you to plan ahead and see if any changes affect your journey.

Train timetables changed on Sunday 11 December 2022, with some areas seeing more trains running where they’d been reduced in early 2022. The new timetable introduces some significant changes to services running into and through Manchester and the North West aimed at improving reliability across this very busy area of the rail network.

In the North West, the significant changes may include a change in calling patterns or starting and destination points. Where possible, train times in the Manchester area have been evened out, so that they’re more regularly spaced.

Below is a summary of the changes for each region. For individual train times, we encourage everyone to check online journey planners before they travel to make sure they’ve got the very latest information.

Online journey planners are updated with the new timetable.

  • Changes to services in and around Manchester as part of the Manchester recovery taskforce, which will see improvement to services and more structured timetables. Changes routes may include:
    • Changes to calling patterns of some services
    • Changes to starting points and destinations on some routes, with some additional direct services in some areas. This also means a change may now be required on other services
    • Change of train operating company
  • Trains that were removed earlier in the year will be reintroduced
  • Some re-timing of trains
  • With the significant changes taking place, we will phase the full timetable over Winter, to allow for the usual two-week Christmas and New Year timetable changes to take place and introduce the full timetable as more people return in the new year.

The below table gives a summary of service patterns on routes. The routes may include different calling patterns and not call at all stations. First and last trains may differ from the service patterns. Please refer to online journey planners for specific changes to individual trains.
