Wherever we operate, we work hard to make sure we're part of the community. After all, we deal with hundreds of people from these places every hour of every day. And we like to make sure we give something back.
Northern employees and customers alike come from a wide variety of communities and we feel a strong commitment to every one of them.
We recognise the benefits of working together with communities to get their opinions on how we might better serve them, both as a transport provider and an employer.
Community Ambassadors scheme
The Northern Community Ambassadors scheme is an innovative project which sees the team of Ambassadors going out into communities and promoting the use of local rail services across the north west of England - East Lancashire, West Pennines and the Calder Valley.
New Initiatives for 2016 and Beyond
- Recruitment of a dedicated Community Rail Partnership marketer to help develop these individual, localised plans and advise on marketing best practice;
- £4m investment to convert disused buildings at stations for community use, encouraging more small businesses and organisations to stations, improving retail facilities;
- Build and enhance the existing community groups and provide rewards for education and volunteers.
